Daria Barkalova is a contemporary artist living and working in Moscow.
Her work explores experiences of instability, loss of control, and the persistent desire to preserve what is already in the process of change. Drawing on personal and spatial memory, she investigates how systems of order emerge in response to uncertainty and how fragile these constructions ultimately remain.
Growing up in Pevek, the northernmost town in Russia, shaped her sensitivity to distance, isolation, and extended temporalities. These experiences continue to inform her artistic practice, where time is understood not as a linear progression but as a condition of gradual erosion and transformation.
Working with installation, painting, and welded metal structures, Daria develops forms that oscillate between permanence and collapse. Industrial materials serve not only as a physical medium but also as a way of negotiating the gap between lived experience and its material trace.
